A little bit of Church history
Once a Presbyterian Church, The Church has taken on a second life as our winery, cellar door and eatery. Originally built in 1894 in a small coastal town called Wangolia which is about an hour south of Dunedin and North of Balclutha, this little piece of local history was carefully moved to its current home in one piece in 2000.
Today, the doors are open once again - this time welcoming guests for good food, Central Otago wine, coffee and conversation. While its purpose may have changed, the character of the building remains, offering a unique setting to slow down, settle in and enjoy what the region has to offer.
A Hub for Riders
The Church has become a hub for riders exploring Gibbston and the surrounding trails. We’re a place to stop, refuel and catch up - whether you’re out for a ride with friends, joining a bike tour or exploring the Valley on two wheels.
We also work with local bike companies and operators, making The Church a natural meeting point and place to gather before or after a day on the trails.
Our wine partnership
Wine is a big part of what we do at The Church. We’re proud to work alongside Mt Edward, bringing their wines to the cellar door and sharing their approach to thoughtful, local winemaking with our guests.
